How Can I Prevent Vehicle Theft?
There are several precautionary steps you can take towards keeping your vehicle safe. This includes slowing down and even stopping thieves from taking off with your car. Check out these tips on how to prevent your vehicle from being stolen:
- Lock your car at all times, even when driving
- Remember to fully close all windows and doors when leaving your car
- Never leave your key inside your car, or leave your car running while unattended
- Park in well-lit areas, and be aware of your surroundingsMost
- Avoid leaving valuables in your car or keep them hidden in the trunk
- Install anti-theft systems and etch your vehicle identification number (VIN) into your car
- Turn your wheels towards a curb, as it makes it harder for tow trucks

Warning Devices
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) recommends installing these devices to ensure that thieves are deterred from going anywhere near your car, or have a harder time getting into it:

- Steering column collars
- Steering hooks or locks
- Brake and wheel locks

The NICB also recommends using devices that will prevent thieves from hot-wiring your vehicle. Some of these devices require an additional “hidden switch” installation before you can start the car:

Tracking Devices
